Something cool...

I heard something really cool today. I have a friend whose mother has had two strokes. As a result, the mother suffers from aphasia. My friend recently read my first three Buddy Files books out loud to her mother and she said that her mother suddenly communicated better during the period of time she was reading those books. Her mother spoke in more complete sentences, was easier to understand etc.

I got goosebumps she told me that.

If my books really had anything to do with it, I assumed it was the simple sentence structure and one could replicate the experience pretty easily by reading ANY easy reader or beginning chapter book to someone with aphasia.

But my friend suggested it was BUDDY that made a difference. Because Buddy often expresses frustration about the fact that humans can't understand him. My friend thought her mother could really relate to that.
